Project management is the application of processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience to achieve specific project objectives according to the project acceptance criteria within agreed parameters. Project management has final deliverables that are constrained to a finite timescale and budget.
Semco Maritime have, for more than 30 years, been supplying the global offshore industry with flexible systems and solutions. They required an application to manage and control projects over multiple locations across Europe, to tight deadline with a limited set of resources.
The application, Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management, has provided greater visibility of resources, the ability to select the right strategic mix of projects, track progress and provide a high level of visualised performance at an enterprise level. The application saved time and money on data processing, with planners able to focus more on scenario planning, rather than data extraction and manipulation.
Faster time to centralised reporting
Ease of access to data across locations
Informed planning capability
The challenge
Semco had pockets of planning across the organisation, across numerous tools, with different reporting methodologies. We needed to modernise and upgrade existing planning infrastructure, analyse high volumes of data and recommend improvements to the underlying database that would enable Semco’s goal.
1
Technical: Analysing options, upgrading databases, middleware and providing a robust solution, with separate databases for pre-production
2 Process: Analysing and recommending options for cleansing and then managing the project data; combined with training experienced users, to best enable a speedy time to operation
