ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Senior / Principal Cloud Data Architect to lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable cloud data platforms across highly regulated Defence and Government environments.
You’ll guide architectural decisions, lead client engagement, mentor engineers and shape Techmodal’s technical capability. This is a senior leadership role within the Data Solutions community, with responsibility for delivery quality, technical direction and the growth of our services.
You’ll also support bids, proposals and internal technical assurance — helping shape the future of Techmodal’s secure data platform offering.
About the team
You’ll be a senior member of our Data Solutions community, working alongside data engineers, software developers and data scientists. The team designs and delivers cloud and hybrid data platforms across MOD, Government and other regulated sectors, integrating analytics, AI, software engineering and secure infrastructure.
What you’ll be doing
- Architect secure cloud-based data platforms across Azure, AWS, OCI, GCP, MOD Cloud and hybrid environments.
- Lead the design and delivery of data warehouses, data lakes, streaming platforms and analytics pipelines.
- Translate complex business needs and ambiguous problem statements into clear technical architectures.
- Lead client engagement, technical discovery workshops and solution design activities.
- Provide architectural oversight across full delivery lifecycles.
Ensure solutions meet UK Government security, governance and regulatory standards. - Lead code reviews and set best-practice engineering standards.
Oversee data architecture and governance across internal and client projects. - Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers and architects.
- Contribute to technical thought leadership and community development.
- Support bids and proposals, including AI, machine learning and advanced analytics solutions.
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience architecting cloud data platforms in Defence, Government, Healthcare, Nuclear or other highly regulated environments.
- Strong hands-on background in delivering analytics, data science and software solutions across cloud and on-prem ecosystems.
- Deep understanding of Secure by Design principles and UK Government secure data architectures.
- Awareness of NCSC guidance, ISO 27001, NIST and GDPR.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Confidence influencing senior leadership and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong experience mentoring, developing and upskilling technical teams.
- A collaborative, inclusive and delivery-focused mindset.
- A track record of adapting approach when things don’t go to plan and embedding learning into future designs.
