Executive Summary
In response to Army HQ’s need for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness, Techmodal developed VERITAS, a powerful data platform that provides a single source of truth for the organisation. By integrating and refining data from multiple Ministry of Defence (MOD) systems, VERITAS enables informed decision-making across critical business processes, transforming supply chain management, inventory forecasting, and operational planning.
Through user-centred design and advanced data tools, VERITAS has streamlined processes, reduced manual input, and created a culture of transparency and collaboration across Army HQ, Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), and industry partners. This case study explores the innovative tools within VERITAS and how they deliver meaningful impact for Army HQ.
Techmodal has fundamentally transformed how we manage and exploit data across critical processes. With VERITAS, we now have a single source of truth that streamlines decision-making, enhances transparency, and delivers operational and cost efficiencies we once thought unachievable.
Their collaborative and user-focused approach has ensured that the tools they’ve developed truly meet our needs, allowing us to plan for the future with confidence and precision as we embrace the emerging Cloud and AI technologies. Once again we will look to utilise Techmodal’s expertise, which has been a game-changer for our organisation, to maximise the potential of these new technologies for exploiting our data.
The challenge
Army HQ faced fragmented processes reliant on manual workflows, spreadsheets, and siloed data sources. These inefficiencies hindered decision-making and introduced significant risks of error. To address these challenges, VERITAS was designed to:
- Provide a single, unified source of truth
- Enable real-time decision-making based on accurate, up-to-date information
- Replace antiquated, error-prone manual processes with automated workflows
- Support future growth by accommodating new processes and applications
Our approach
VERITAS was developed as a modular, adaptable platform capable of integrating data from any source. The application layer enables users to build tools tailored to their specific needs, supported by a solid foundation of clean, reliable data. This agile approach ensured that VERITAS could address both immediate challenges and future requirements.
Key tools developed within VERITAS include:
-
Critical Outstanding Spares List (COSL)
- Replaced spreadsheet-based workflows with a centralised, automated system for managing mission-critical spares
- Reduced manual data input and improved data quality, ensuring real-time updates
-
Management Information Report (MIR) 226
- Automated the management of overdue depot returns, resolving version control issues and improving collaboration
- Enabled simultaneous access for multiple users and introduced an interactive dashboard for tracking progress and generating insights
-
Materiel Loss Register (MLR)
- Unified reporting processes across all Army HQ units, standardising data entry and reducing errors
- Provided automatic aggregation of data from unit to brigade and division levels
-
Activity & Resource Planning (A&RP)
- Integrated forecasting tools to predict equipment and inventory needs based on historical and real-time data
- Enabled collaborative planning across Army HQ, DE&S, and industry partners, ensuring alignment on future requirements
-
Operations & Events Planning
- Supported the creation of multiple operational scenarios, enabling users to compare costs and resources under varying assumptions
- Centralised the management of Land Equipment Support & Planning Assumptions (LESPAS), ensuring consistency across all plans
-
Platform Management
- Delivered critical insights into platform costs, availability, and performance metrics
- Provided users with data to optimise maintenance and operational readiness
-
Ammunition Stockpile Management
- Centralised data on stock levels, consumption, and future requirements, ensuring better decision-making for munitions planning
The outcome
VERITAS has delivered transformative benefits to Army HQ:
As a trusted partner, Techmodal remains committed to working with Army HQ to refine and expand VERITAS, ensuring it continues to deliver value and support the mission of Defence and Public Sector excellence.
