FAST ESP

Search Management

Enterprise search systems must produce accurate and relevant results to meet the expectations of increasingly demanding users and the needs of their businesses.

That means enterprise search systems must be able to:

  • Manage search profiles, as well as tune and manage the search experience of users.
  • Tune and monitor the relevance of the enterprise search engine.
  • Measure and validate the success of enterprise search with respect to various users.

FAST ESP’s search profile management provides the capabilities for achieving granular user management, tuning search and relevancy settings per application, and managing multiple search applications that are accessing the FAST ESP installation. Each search profile can map to a specific use of the installation. For example, it is possible to have one search profile for a site search and another search profile for an intranet search.

Business-level management of the search experience includes a wide variety of tuning, monitoring, administration, and reporting operations, such as managing ranking, relevancy, synonyms, and navigators. The ability to continuously tune and improve a user’s search experience enables a more user-centric and user-friendly enterprise search that caters to the needs of the user’s audiences.
FAST ESP provides a set of rules-based tools for tuning and monitoring search relevancy and tracking the relevancy score over time. By using these tools, it is possible to track and manage the impacts of other relevancy modifications on the system.

Continuous monitoring of performance through FAST ESP’s query reporting capabilities allows users to keep a close eye on search trends for each search profile in the FAST ESP system. Users can easily identify their most frequent queries as well as queries that return zero results.
